Title: User attitudes towards online testing at Aberystwyth University

Synopsis: This session will provide information about users’ attitudes towards online assessment. It is based on surveys undertaken with students at Aberystwyth University who had taken one or more assessment. The results of these surveys cover the students’ perceptions of using online exam packages focusing on issues such as their confidence in taking online examinations, the effect of practice exams on anxiety and performance, and their perceptions of the kind of information tested by their exams. It will also examine the students’ experience of online assessment prior to coming University.

The survey on which this paper will be based has been run over two years allowing for a comparison between the first round of exams using Perception and a subsequent year (when use of the system was more embedded in the institution).

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand users’ perceptions of taking online assessment
  • Explore the factors which help inspire confidence when taking exams
